Dr Franklin obtained his medical degree in 1992 from the University of Queensland, training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital before being admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2000.

He began private practice at the John Flynn Private Hospital in 2001, initially dividing his time with part-time training in Stress Echocardiography at the Princess Alexandra Hospital under the guidance of Professor Thomas Marwick, a world-renowned leader in the field of echocardiography.

He has served in clinical advisory positions at the John Flynn Private Hospital, as Chair of the Cardiac Services Department, and as Chair of the Medical Advisory and Credentialing Committees. He is active in teaching Bond University medical students and hosts a monthly clinical case-discussion forum for cardiology trainees and consultants. 

Special Interests:

Non-invasive cardiac investigations, especially stress echocardiography; heart failure; heart rhythm disorders; and amateur astrophotography.

Dr Ahmad Nasir

CARDIOLOGIST

Dr. Nasir obtained his medical degree in 1991 from Baghdad University and received extensive training overseas, becoming a qualified physician in 2003 in the UK. He moved to Australia in 2007 and underwent further training in Cardiology at the Gold Coast and Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, becoming a member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. He then joined the John Flynn Cardiology group in 2013.

Associate Professor Cameron Ward

PAEDEATRIC CARDIOLOGIST

Prof Ward completed his undergraduate medical degree at UNSW prior to undertaking paediatric training at the Sydney Children’s Hospital. He then initiated his basic paediatric cardiac training at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children before accepting a one-year British Columbia Heart and Stroke Foundation scholarship at British Columbia Children’s Hospital Vancouver, Canada where he gained additional skills in foetal echocardiography and imaging. He then undertook an interventional fellowship year at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Texas before being appointed as Assistant Professor to the Variety Children’s Heart Centre Winnipeg, Canada.

He returned to Australia to a joint appointment at the Mater Children’s and the Prince Charles Hospitals in Brisbane. He established the Queensland foetal echocardiography service and jointly established the Queensland paediatric interventional services with the introduction of a wide variety of new procedures. He was the paediatric cardiologist for Operation Open Heart to Fiji for a number of years.

He has written a number of research papers and instigated the world’s first paediatric hybrid procedure in Houston, Texas. He served on the Royal Australian College of Physicians Written examination committee, Queensland State committee of the College of Physicians and is currently on the Royal Australian College of Physicians National Examining panel. He maintains a full-time position at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
